On the 23rd of March 1973

6 women were admitted to the London Stock Exchange for the first time in the institutions 200-year history.

Founded in 1698 at Jonathan’s Coffee House, and exclusively the preserve of men for 275 years, it was considered the City’s last male bastion until March 1973.

As we enter the 50th year since women could invest in the UK we will look at where this historic journey started, celebrate the fearless women who changed the game and examine what still needs to be achieved to ensure total equality in investing.

On the 8th of March 2023

One year after its launch, our Fearless Woman campaign is now shifting focus. Today, International Woman’s Day, we are proudly reflecting on how we have celebrated the journey it took for a woman to be allowed to step foot onto the London Stock Exchange, how far we’ve come since, and acknowledge what still needs to be done.

We want to mark this moment by looking forward, hopeful about the changes we can all affect over the next 50 years. And what better way to do this than by showcasing the photos of the women who entered our Fearless Woman photography competition. You see here what women who invest really look like; you, me, us.

Thank you for supporting this campaign and standing with us as we continue to challenge outdated stereotypes surrounding women and investing. As these photos show, women are out there in the world doing the work to help inform and support their own on the path to financial equality. We know, and our latest research shows, there is still much work to be done within the industry itself.

If you haven’t, please read our latest research which is a culmination of the last 12 months of insights alongside our own surveys, our blog and interviews with today’s fearless people trailblazing for a better tomorrow.

Together, let’s keep challenging outdated stereotypes that women and money don’t mix. What’s next for Fearless? You’ll have to follow us on LINKEDIN to find out.
